Working with local members of Cytûn (Churches Together in Wales) and members of the congregations, the Heritage Group has recently completed the new heritage walk based around the history and architecture of the churches and chapels in the town.
The booklet, in English and Welsh, is available from Colwyn Bay Library.
Alongside the rapid house building in Colwyn Bay during the late 18th and early 19th century there was the need to provide commercial and community facilities for the growing number of both residents and visitors.
In the early 19th century churches and chapels were at the heart of every community so, not surprisingly, many religious congregations became established in the town and a substantial number of churches and chapels were built. As the town grew these were either extended to accomodate the increasing congregation numbers, or additional churches or chapels were built in the newly developing areas of the town.
This walk highlights the rich heritage of religious buildings and shows the high standard and variety of architcture, giving an insight into the changes in fortune of the many and varied denominations that have occurred over the last 150 years.
More detailed information about each building is available on this website at this page.
