Colwyn Bay Accredited: the wartime experience

Using personal memories of those living in the town during the war as well as documents and previously unpublished photographs this book describes how the town was impacted through its important contributions during the war years, changing its character for ever.

Although far from the front line it was a hive of activity. The National Headquarters of the Ministry of Food under the leadership of Lord Woolton was based in the town with his staff of 5000 evacuated here.

The population mixed as never before with Whitehall civil servants, extremely poor evacuees from Liverpool, soldiers on training exercises, Belgian refugee diamond cutters and Americans.

Colwyn Bay says farewell to local author Cindy Lowe
