Joan Davies

Joan, one of four daughters, grew up on Lawson Road Colwyn Bay.

She remembers that when her Mother took in paying guests the girls were sent to stay with their Aunt in the North Wales countryside on Minera mountain, where conditions were not as “modern” as Colwyn Bay.

Joan won a scholarship and attended the Grammar school during wartime. When she was old enough she went out dancing on the pier and also enjoyed sports at Eirias Park. She remembers Fred Perry coming to school and giving the pupils tips on tennis.

She married in 1948 and immediately travelled to Guildford where her husband had been transferred to the Ministry of Food branch there.

Joan was interviewed by Cindy.
