The gardens were originally landscaped as part of the grounds of the former Tan y Coed Mansion, which was built on the western side of Beach Road by a Manchester shipping magnate, Sir Charles Woodall.
There are sculptural carvings in the grounds and close to the path there are also information boards about the butterfly garden and the woodland.
